Overview
The pressure to provide rendered
human products for a wide variety of needs and growing civilian unrest over
culling procedures found a new outlet with the development of viable time travel in 2042.
Project Trawl consisted of sending USO agents back
in time to gather up groups of humans. Over time, the project went back in
further leaps, meaning that the last missions occurred furthest back in time. Later in the project, preprocessing facilities were established at certain points in time and space, which helped cut down on manpower and logistical difficulties.
Beyond simple resources, the project had a
number of other purposes. It was a test of time technology and advanced deployment in general. A great deal of reconnaissance on past events, particularly the ancient civilizations of Serpent Folk and others, provided valuable information to the USO. Though extended expeditions caused heavy losses due to these ancient races, the missions were judged a success.
Normally, USO used Nordic agents (or agents disquised thus) with standard hypertech, and with hypertech small support craft. In some missions, agents from different periods of time collaborated. This caused some stress on agents, but not to the serious detriment of mission effectiveness.
The presence of Nordics on these missions is
responsible for a number of repercussions through time. Several prominant components of time portals are shaped like swastikas. The descriptions given to natives were
along the lines of 'We are warriors in the sky, fighting the last war against
evil'.
The apparant temporal causality problems with
these missions only bothered the scientists involved. For the agents and
officers, such abstractions were unimportant.
There were other missions, even more covert. Agents were transported to various time periods. Details of these missions were not need to know for any officer directly attached to Project Trawl.
