XCOM2: The Resurrection?

Just to prove that you can't keep a good campaign idea down, since leaving my old gaming group I've been working on and off on the XCom premise, for when I can get another gaming group together.  Called XCom2 (to distinguish it from UFO2, which was the second series of the original campaign), the campaign I'm working on at the moment is basically similar to the first in structure, however since so much of the way the game develops depends on the players, There's only the barest outline so far.  I've decide to go for some variations in the overall plot, the aliens will be different (although 'favourites' like the Grays and MIBs will still be there) and the background world will be different (although based firmly on the 'real' world).

Ideas that I've played around with include setting the campaign a little back in time.  The 1970s would be nice, with State of the Art fighters like the YF16, and the cold war in full swing.  Then again, there's a lot of scope for setting the campaign even further back, post or even pre WWII

Other ideas include making XCom a private enterprise, rather than a UN sponsored operation.

But with the lessons learned in the first game, If I ever run this again I'm confident it's going to be a good game.  This time I'll be a lot happier to let the players escalate XCom's activity, now that I know that I've got game mechanics in place to handle such things.
