Briefly, when Giuseppe Zangara shot at President-elect Franklin Delano
Roosevelt in 1933, he hit and killed him. In the constitutional chaos
that prevailed afterwards, John N. "Cactus Jack" Garner (Roosevelt's
running mate) was unable to quell the rising tide of the Depression and
could not muster the support for any sort of massive relief program.
America slipped deeper into depression, and fascist political parties like
the American Nazi Party, the German-American Bund and Father Coughlin's
audience gained widepsread support.
When Germany declared war on Britain, skirmishes along the Canadian border were arranged between fascist militias and very-surprised Canadian police. Through manipulation of radio and newspapers, the now-strong American Nazi Party was able to issue a "call for aid" to the Germans, who responded with armed troops. World War II had come to America.
The war, from that point on, was essentially a foregone conclusion - defensive guerilla fighting against the German and Japanese war machines took the place of full-scale warfare.
After the German victories in America and Europe, and the Japanese victories in China and Indonesia, the relatively smaller prizes of Africa and the Middle East seemed hardly worth fighting over - a change in colonial governments didn't seem to change much at all for the indigenous peoples. No anticolonial movement arose on Reich-5, of course.
This is not to say that things have been peaceful since the end of
fighting in 1943 and the signing of the peace treaty in 1950. The last
and most vicious American Resistance uprising had to be put down with
nuclear weapons, dropped on Denver and Atlanta. Resistance partisans of
all sides know that being too successful too obviously leads to reprisal
at random, often against innocent bystanders.
This means that although a lot of Big Four countries want to liberate their counterparts from Nazi oppression (particularly before the whole world becomes 'juderein'), they have to tread very carefully and do things very quietly. There are absoltely no Big Four conveyors allowed on Reich-5. All penetrations are done very carefully by projector.
