Description
"Lucifer" is the designation for all worlds which have been hit by
asteroid or comet catastrophically during written history.
Lucifer-4 is one of the more easily discernible.
In 1818, at the close of the Age of Reason and the dawning of the
Industrial Revolution, an asteroid struck the Earth in Russia, carving out
a gigantic crater and throwing spumes of dust into the sky. Volcanic
activity also swept southwards, and an age of ice and fire
melodramatically conquered the world.
Vast human casualties have been the order of the day in the ten years
since. Freezing cold temperatures have combined with inadequate heating
in most of the world to make a deadly combination. However tenuous,
though, civilization hangs on by a thread. In some areas isolated,
communities scrape out a living on the now-blasted tundra.
Points of Interest
Finding any community on Lucifer-4 is of interest. Wildlife has adapted
surprisingly quickly on Lucifer-4 (making some Big Four biologists think
that evolution may work differently there), and so survival may be
obtained by hunting independently.
Big Four Influence
None. However, several humanitarian organizations have considered
undertaking a rescue attempt of Lucifer and bringing it wholesale to
another place, as was done with the population of Taft-3. Objections
include the relative "backwardness" of Lucifer when compared to other
crosstime humanitarian efforts and the apparent survivability of the
remaining people. (If they can rebuild society themselves, reason some,
there is no need to rescue them, and only increases interference.) (Since
they may be able to rebuild society on their own, why rescue?)
Centrum Influence
None known.
