Description
Johnson's Rome is one of many worlds where the Roman Empire lasted much
longer than it did on Homeline. However, its life has also been
artificially lengthened by the Homeline crosstime tourist corporations who
have toned down some of the worst excesses, secretly wiped out many
diseases, and more or less manipulated the Empire indirectly into a
cleaner, healthier, happier Empire with plenty of places for tourists to
explore. Everyone, including the Romans, is making a bundle in Johnson's
Rome, despite constant grumblings from the political powers-that-be of the
Big Four, especially the UN and national governments, who worry that
allowing corporations to control inhabited parallels might set a bad
precedent.
Points of Interest
Outside the Roman Empire, the rest of the world is pretty similar to how
it was in 918. Inside, increased prosperity and moderation in government
have made it more benign, slightly less decadent, and slightly less
stratified. However, this is quite "artificial" due to the "trade goods"
which the "merchants of the East" bring.
Big Four Influence
As noted above, Homeline corporations have a big stake in keeping
Johnson's Rome alive and more or less safe.
Centrum Influence
Though Centrum agents have been caught in Johnson's Rome, their intentions
there are not known.
